City Nazim syed Mustafa Kamal has said that designing and planning of Gharibabad Underpass, Hassan Square Flyover and M.A Jinnah Road Extension projects were done in haste by ignoring the needs of traffic improvement.

"The completion of these projects without removing the shortcomings in design and planning would serve nothing but add the traffic problems," he pointed out.

In a briefing at the sites of these projects during a visit with newsmen in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town late Thursday night, City Nazim directed immediate measures to remove these loopholes.

He urged concerned engineers, consultants and officials to make sure that these projects be completed as per schedule despite of their redesigning.

"It seems that concerned consultants worked in a haste while designing these projects and if these were completed without removing these shortcomings, this would tantamount to wastage of public money and a negation of future planning as well as brining more complications in traffic system instead of improvement", he observed.

Mustafa Kamal vowed to take legal actions against concerned engineers, officials and consultants, if any carelessness or slackness was practised.

He said that he would inspect other under construction roads and development projects to ascertain whether any other projects were being carried out with ill-planning and if any project found to be undertaken by ignoring the traffic needs would be rectified to save the public money.

"The public money on development project will have to be spent by completing all the legal formalities and anyone found guilty of irresponsibility in this regard would face legal action", he added.
